With photographs presented in the media, we can often make the mistake of believing everything to be factual due to their documentary state. When drawn however, the appearance of the photograph is transformed, allowing space for the viewer to question the reality of both what we are seeing on the canvas and what may have been there in real life, therefore undermining all certainty about the events. Despite major developments in photography, there is still the opportunity for artistic representation of current events, withough them becoming false historical documents. The focus of my current practice is based on the painting of modern life and the validity of new historical paintings in a contemporary age and the series below is based on media images of the G20 riots of April 1st, 2009.
